The Bermondsey Beer Mile changes fast. One guide updated in September 2026 still lists Brew By Numbers, Moor Beer, Fourpure, Partizan and Affinity, and none of their Bermondsey taprooms is open. So this is the route as it stands, with every taproom and beer bar checked against its Google listing on 26 October 2026.

It isn’t really a mile either. Time Out puts it at roughly two, and London Brewery Tours makes it closer to a mile and a half. The Kernel was the first brewery here, in 2009, and Wikipedia says many followed for the cheap rent under the unused railway arches.

Other bars in the arches also open on a Saturday, including Magazzino, These Days and the Doodle Bar on Druid Street, the Volley South on Enid Street in Moor’s old arch, and Billy Franks, a jerky and craft beer shop that only opens on Saturdays.

What’s at each stop

Druid Street. Southwark Brewing is the classic start, and it shuts at 19:00 on a Saturday, earlier than the bars that follow, so go there first. Kanpai brews its sake on the mile, Time Out says. The Barrel Project was opened in 2018 by London Beer Factory as a taproom and barrel-ageing space, and a r/beer commenter says it “often has some great aged sours on”. Fabal is a lager taproom run by Hiver, the honey-beer brewer round the corner on Stanworth Street. Anspach & Hobday opened in 2013 and is one of only two survivors of the four original breweries, according to The Londoner. It moved its brewing out to Croydon in 2019 and runs the old brewhouse as a bar.

Maltby Street Market. The route’s food stop, open Friday to Sunday. Wikipedia notes one travel guide suggests eating here before you start.

Enid Street. The busiest stretch. The Dutch Taproom has more than 30 taps of Dutch beer, Craft Beer Junction specialises in beer from Tampa in Florida, and Against The Grain is a craft cider bar. Big Hug Social opened on 14 June 2026 in Gosnells’ old arch. It mostly pours Big Hug’s own beer, and Gosnells’ mead is still on. Mash Paddle runs brewing lessons on small kits. Of the stops above, only Cloudwater, Bianca Road and Enid Street Tavern open every day. One r/UK_beer commenter named Kernel, Anspach & Hobday and Cloudwater as the standouts.

Spa Road. The Kernel is where it all started, and its new site sits just off the mile proper. It shuts at 21:00 on a Saturday, earlier than the Enid Street bars.

Verney Road. Small Beer is a further walk south and only opens on Fridays and Saturdays.

The ones that have closed

Google lists Brew By Numbers, Moor Beer, Fourpure, Spartan, Hawkes and EeBria as permanently closed. Partizan and Affinity’s closures come from CAMRA and the unofficial Beer Mile guide.

Battersea Brewery’s Substation on Almond Road is listed as temporarily closed on Google, though CAMRA still shows Saturday hours, so we’ve left it off the route. Check before you go.

What it’s like on a Saturday now

Busy. Time Out’s 2025 piece called it “stag do hell”, and The Londoner visited in March 2026 and found the Saturday crowd outnumbers the beer people by thousands a week. The Londoner also reported that the private equity-owned landlord has been raising rents since it took over the arches. Time Out found in 2025 that only a small minority of stops still brew on site, so it’s more a run of bars now than a run of breweries.

Reddit’s tips, from people who’ve done it. Start early on a Saturday. Ask for thirds, which are easy to get, and fill your water bottle, because anywhere serving alcohol has to give you tap water. And don’t bother on a Monday or Tuesday. As one local put it, “all the best ones worth going to are going to be closed.”

Proper pubs near the Beer Mile

For a pub after the taprooms, two from our list of the best pubs in London are close by. The Royal Oak in Borough, best for Harvey’s Best Bitter, and the George Inn, London’s last galleried coaching inn, are each about 1.3 km from Anspach & Hobday as the crow flies, and one r/UK_beer commenter likes to finish the day at the George. If you finish at the Kernel, the Mayflower in Rotherhithe is about 1.3 km to the north-east, on the river.

Closer still, Reddit rates the Hand and Marigold on Bermondsey Street as excellent, and the Blue Maid on Borough High Street for a good selection of ales.
